While I still can't officially work, Helen at the cake store is allowing me to come help get her shop in order while teaching me a thing or two about cakes along the way. I went in today for a few hours and watched her make a quick celebration cake and the beginnings of a car cake. The only materials I have used on my cakes is butter cream icing. It tastes far better than fondant and I firmly believe in creating a tasty cake over one that is prettier but isn't as good. I hate to admit it, but in just one short day she's opened my eyes to the world of fondant to the point I am considering expanding my own techniques. I'm excited to see what the next weeks hold! In the mean time, enjoy the walk to the cake shop if you will:
Other than that, today was uneventful. I left Helen's at three with hopes of getting to the market before it closed at four. I took the bus because it was raining and when I arrived at 3:30, everyone was packing up early because of the weather. I waited out the storm a bit before I got back home. I came home to see this in my room:
Now, we don't have to live out of this:
After more than two weeks at this new place, I have a place to put my clothes! Who would have thought that a piece of furniture would be so exciting?
